Danielle Perez is a woman of color and disabled comic in LA who gained popularity when on the gameshow Price is Right, Danielle won a treadmill and a walk-in sauna. The experience went viral and she was interviewed by every news and media outlet. She even describes being papparazzi'd! What a dream! At that point in her career, Danielle was very new to standup and propelled herself into the spotlight with the help of her friends! Check this quick video out about this entire event.
Danielle identifies as disabled, fat, plus size, Arfro-Latina with parents from the Dominican Republic. She was born and raised in East LA where she now puts up a monthly show called Gentrification with her comedy collaborators, Thigh Gap Comedy. Danielle discusses growing up in a largely Chicano and Central American community as a Dominicana.
Danielle describes the what the pinnacle of her ideal career would look like and models it after other women of color who have become their own show runners. Danielle discusses the career trajectories of standup lifers and those aiming to work in the entertainment industry full time. The two ladies discuss those peers on the comedy hustle that use the language of "aspiring comedian" or just identifying as a comedian and the women in this industry who they follow and with whom they associate. Danielle and Jana talk about the exhaustion around social media and how to maintain authenticity online in the face of dissenters and trolls.

Danielle's One Cool Thing is a book called This is How You Lose Her by Junot Diaz, a collection of short stories about Latinas. She also discusses a book of poems called Peluda by Melissa Lezada-Oliva. Jana's One Cool Thing is an organization called Equality for Her established by Queer, Muslim woman of color in activism, Blair Imani. This organization is an awesome resource hub for women's issues and representation.
