Kendall is an intersex person and a woman and non-binary. She discusses all of her identities but comes to the podcast wanting to open up about her intersex experiences. Kendall informs the listening audience about what the term intersex means and its spectrum. Ultimately, she explains that intersex is an umbrella term that describes gender variations expressed in a multitude of ways for about 1.6% of the worldwide population. Kendall describes her specific intersex expression, how she came to understand that expression and how she avoided surgery through finding community online. Kendall also describes her political perspective on this and how she believes that it’s crucial that intersex people stand in solidarity with trans folks because surgeries that intersex people are often coerced into having do in fact need to exist for individuals who need them change their bodies so that their bodies match their gender expressions. She also argues that gender surgeries in newborns to cosmetically alter the gender of the child is wildly unethical. Parents are often misinformed about this by the patriarchal and binary medical community so it’s truly crucial that anti-trans voices are overpowered by a more educated, gender non-conforming population.
